We hold teaching positions at the prestigious University of Basel and Danube Private University in Austria. We are passionate advocates of academic urology and have retained this interest even after settling down.
It is extremely unusual to find a section called "Research and Teaching" on the homepage of a urological practice. We are one of the few practices in Switzerland whose partners are continuously involved in research and student teaching even after their establishment.
In addition to regular lectures and supervision of master's and doctoral theses, we offer seminars and hands-on block practicals in our practice facilities. Using our own resources, we have built a state-of-the-art urological skills and training lab. Students appreciate these opportunities to expand their knowledge and gain practical experience. In addition, we regularly lecture at national and international congresses and publish scientific papers. We actively participate in national and international guideline committees and thus actively contribute to the advancement of our field. Through these extensive activities, as well as our continuous education and training, we ensure that our patients always receive state-of-the-art treatment.
Research
Alta uro actively collaborates with researchers from the Department of Biomedical engineering at the University of Basel. Topics include the development of new techniques for faster diagnosis of urinary tract infections, studies on urogenital tuberculosis, bacteriophage therapy and antimicrobial surface coating of implants. Prof. Gernot Bonkat, MD, coordinates these projects in his role as Senior Medical Adviser together with Dr. Braissant and his team. alta uro offers students the opportunity to gain insights into these fascinating topics, to learn about state-of-the-art techniques and to complete master's and doctoral theses. We generously support graduates to demonstrate their achievements at national and international congresses.
The alta uro team, in collaboration with Dr. Braissant and the Department of Biomedical engineering, continuously publishes scientific articles in renowned scientific journals. In total, we have published 23 articles in the last few years.

Finished your studies? Congratulations! Now comes the start of your professional life. At the beginning of their careers, many residents are assigned to interdisciplinary emergency departments. Here, early career residents are often confronted with urological clinical pictures. The aim of this winter school is to prepare students for the most common urological emergency situations and their management. In addition to a basic theoretical understanding, emphasis is placed on practical activities.

The publication of scientific articles is an essential part of research. Before an article is published in a prestigious journal, it is peer-reviewed. Influential scientific journals have a high rejection rate and a high 'impact factor'. The higher the impact factor of a journal, the more frequently the articles published in it are cited.
